Easy Side Hustles For Quick Money

We live in a society where the cost of living is steadily skyrocketing, and the average income isn’t keeping pace with the rising expenses.

Having a side hustle is a great way to negate this. However, a legitimate side hustle takes plenty of time or money.

So what side hustles can be done to make some quick cash? In this article, we will dive deeply into different side hustles you could do for quick money.

Before we get started, I have a newsletter called Income Stream Ideas, which goes over different income ideas, along with case studies/interview on how different entrepreneurs/creators make money. Sign up here:

#1 Become a Freelancer

If you have existing skills, especially ones applicable to the internet, freelancing could be a great way to get going with making some extra cash.

The internet makes it easy to apply for and get jobs with sites like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer, where you could simply list your services or apply for jobs that are relevant to your skills.

I know personally that this one works simply because it’s one of my income streams.

When times got tough, I utilized my skills of writing and applied to a lot of different job listings I found on Upwork.

I was able to land a client in 2022, which I’m still working with today. In fact, he just gave me a raise a couple of weeks ago.

Even if you don’t have a lot of skills, you could just simply apply to jobs as a virtual assistant, which consists of you completing simple tasks for clients.

This article is about quick money, so if you want to get working quickly, here are some tips when applying:

  • Make sure your profile is complete with experience, portfolio items, and certifications if applicable.
  • Apply to as many jobs as you can.
  • Don’t use a cookie-cutter template for your proposals. Instead, dive deeply into what the customers want and how you can provide value to them.
  • Use examples of work you’ve done in the past and how it applied to what they need.

If you put your head down and apply to a bunch of jobs using the methods above, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t land a client within a couple of days. However, if you’re really in a pinch, we have plenty more ideas for you to work from below.

#2 Flip Furniture

If have any type of handy skills, one way to make some quick cash is by flipping furniture.

The process is simple.

  1. The first thing you want to do is find a piece of furniture for free on websites like Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. You’re probably wondering whether anyone would give away furniture for free. However, when people are moving out, and want to get rid of everything quickly, they may be willing to give away some furniture for free to save time and hassle. On top of that, some things may be so heavy that they feel it’s best to just get rid of it for free.
  2. Whatever piece of furniture you manage to get, you want to figure out how you could make it better, more modern, and overall more appealing to potential customers. For example, if you manage to get an old and worn-out dresser, consider sanding it and repainting it with a trendy color and replacing the knobs with modern ones.
  3. The last step is to simply list it on Craiglist and Facebook marketplace.

The biggest key to this side hustle is managing your expenses and tracking your profit. The pain and other things may cost some money and you need to make sure you’re making enough from your finished projects to at least cover the cost of materials.

If you’re able to do this efficiently, you can resell the piece for a good amount of money. you can turn something free into a couple hundred bucks.

Lastly, if you need cash FAST, only do this side hustle if you’re confident you could work on a dresser or thing of that nature without messing it up.

Who Is Flipping Furniture For?

Flipping furniture is for people who are super creative and can identify potential in old and worn-out furniture. It’s also for people who can identify opportunities quickly and act on them in a timely manner. There’s a good amount of people out there trying to do the same thing so you need to be fast.

#3 Sell Gift Cards For Cash

This clearly isn’t a side hustle, but it’s a good way to get some extra cash in your pocket if you’re in a pickle. Let’s say you have a Barnes and Noble gift card for instance. If you go on Cardcash.com, you can enter the place your gift card is for, type in the amount of money on your gift card, and see how much you could get for it.

I entered my $100 Barnes and Noble gift card and they offered me $69.00 for it. Not too bad. However, I love Barnes and Noble so I’m planning on keeping the $100.00.

#4 Dog Walking

If you love pets and want to get a little bit of exercise, dog walking may be a good option.

You could get clients in two ways.

  1. Reach out to people you know who have dogs and offer your services.
  2. You could also sign up for a dog walking app like Rover or Wag to find clients in your area.

According to Care.com , dog walking could earn anywhere between $12.77 and $19.71 per hour.

Depending on how hard you work, you could make a good amount of extra money on the side. Plus, spending time with cute dogs is always a bonus!

Who Is Dog Walking For?

To be a good dog walker and make some good extra money you have to:

  • Be knowledgeable about dogs. Don’t just wing something like this as you don’t want to end up getting someone or the dog hurt in the process. Learn the best practices for dog walking.
  • Dog walking takes a lot of flexibility, especially as you build your clients list up. You need to make sure you have a lot of flexibility in your schedule. However, if you only need a little extra money, getting one client and scheduling an hour a day could be enough.
  • Make sure you like spending time outdoors. Whether it’s sunny or raining it’s up to you to make sure the dog you’re walking is safe and happy.

#5 Shovel Snow, Rake Leaves, Mow Grass, and Clean Gutters

This is one I came across on the side hustle subreddit.

Many homeowners have a list of things they never got around to doing. Whether it’s cleaning their gutters, raking leaves, shoveling snow, or mowing their lawn, these are all tasks that some people dread doing. That’s your opportunity.

It doesn’t even have to be one of the things mentioned above. All you have to do is ring some doorbells and ask them if they need help with anything around the house. Here’s a comprehensive list of things you could offer.

  1. Power washing: All you have to do is go to Home Depot, rent a power washer for $50 bucks for the day (that’s what they charged me here in New Jersey), and charge people $150 to power wash their driveways (or whatever they need power washed.)
  2. Moving furniture: A lot of people hate moving heavy furniture and are willing to pay someone to do it for them. This could be especially profitable if you have a truck or van that can fit larger items.
  3. Picking Weeds: Patios could be a pain to clean and a lot of homeowners hate picking weeds. This could be an easy task that you charge hourly for.
  4. Planting a Garden: Do you have a green thumb? Offer your services to help people plant and maintain a garden for an extra fee.
  5. Deep Cleaning: Some homeowners may not have the time or energy to thoroughly clean their homes. Offer your cleaning services on weekends or evenings for some extra cash.
  6. Organization: You could organize sheds, garages, and even closets for people who need a little help decluttering their spaces.

The list goes on and on. Take whatever you could think of and write it down. Give that list of whatever services you could offer and give it to the people you reach out to.

You can also sign up to Taskrabbit, which is an app that allows you to apply for jobs in your area for multiple things including cleaning, moving, and handyman tasks.

#6 Uber, Uber Eats, Doordash, Instacart

If you have a car, doing one of these apps in your free time can bring in some extra cash.

I’ve personally done Doordash and Uber Eats and I would make $100 per night in only a few hours which is a good amount of extra money. However, I’ve since stopped doing it because I’ve picked up an online freelancing gig instead to take care of my car a bit more.

Keep in mind, that I do live In a small town 15 minutes away from New York, so the population is high. So when doing side hustles like the ones above you need to consider how populated or busy your town is. Some areas may not be as profitable for these types of gigs.

The lower the population density, the lower the demand for these services. However, if you live in a busy city, these gig opportunities could potentially be more lucrative.

Here are some things you need to take into consideration:

  1. Make sure you account for gas money, as it’s a write-off. Also because you need to
  2. Consider your mileage and car wear and tear, as you will need to pay for car maintenance costs.
  3. Keep track of your earnings to ensure it’s worth the time and effort. If the hourly rate is too low or if you aren’t making enough money, it may be better to seek out other side hustle opportunities.
  4. When comparing Uber, Uber Eats, Doordash, and Instacart, you need to consider what you like to do in terms of service. For example, driving versus grocery shopping may have different demands on your time and energy. If you’re not a people person, you may just want to deliver food. If you enjoy grocery shopping, then Instacart may be a better fit for you.

#7 Focus Groups

Focus groups are groups made to research products, get feedback on particular topics, and more. There are plenty of opportunities when it comes to participating in focus groups because not only do they have in-person ones, but they have ones you could do online as well.

The easiest way to get started is by signing up with one of these market research agencies – Saros, Angelfish Opinions, Research Opinions, Talking Point Research, Bunnyfield, Opinion Exchange, and Code 3.

You can expect to earn as little as $100, and up to $500.

Another way you could get opportunities to make money via focus groups is by going to the sites of big companies and scrolling to the bottom. You can sometimes find a link to “research”, “focus groups”, or “consumer insights.”

Keep in mind, that you may not always be a match for the focus group. Sometimes, the demographic needs to be very specific because they are researching a particular product or service.

#8 Sell Items You No Longer Need

This is also one that’s not a side hustle, however, it could lead to giving you the quick money you need. All you have to do is go on Facebook Marketplace, Craiglist, Mercari, and Poshmark. You’ll be surprised at how quickly some items will sell.

If you list enough items, you may be able to see which items sell the fastest which leads me to the next topic.

#9 Find Items to Flip

The next side hustle you could do for quick money is finding items to flip. However, before you get started, you need to make sure you do thorough research to ensure that you can actually make a profit.

Here are the steps you could take to flip items.

  1. Go to a thrift store and source items there. One trick you could do is use Google Lens to find where else items are selling and for how much.
  2. Once you find an item that is selling for more online than in the thrift store, buy it.
  3. List the item on selling sites.
  4. Wait for it to sell and then ship it out to the buyer.
  5. Repeat steps 1-4 as needed.

People make PLENTY of money doing this. However, it may be risky if you need quick cash because you don’t know how fast things will sell. So always keep that in mind before deciding to solely rely on flipping items for quick money.

One tip is to pick a niche to focus on, such as vintage clothing or furniture. This way, you can become an expert in that area and have a better understanding of what items will sell for a higher price.

You don’t have to only source items from thrift stores either. You could also source items from craiglist, Facebook Marketplace, and more.

#10 Rent Out Your Assets

Do you have an empty parking spot in your town? Look into apps like SpotHero where you could list your parking spot online and make money by renting it out.

Have a spare room in your home? Consider listing it on Airbnb.

Have a car you don’t use? Rent it out on Turo.

Have extra storage space? Rent it out on Neighbor.com

Renting stuff out that you have, but don’t really use could be a great way to make extra money. It is also one of the closest things to being passive income.

There’s no shortage of things you could rent out either. Here’s a full list of things you could rent.

  • Party Tents
  • Power Tools
  • Tables and chairs
  • Rooms
  • Parking
  • Storage
  • Your Boat
  • Car
  • & More

#11 Paint House Numbers On Curbs

This one may sound a little absurd to you, however, this could be a very lucrative side hustle. You may be wondering how you could make money by doing this.

Well, when it comes to emergencies, the police or ambulance need to be able to see house numbers easily. One way to do this is by spray painting reflective paint of the house number.

A lot of people don’t have this. So all you have to do is get the number stencils, good reflective paint, and then go door to door asking people if they would like it done for a fee.

From what I’ve seen online, most people charge $20 per household for this. If you could do 10 houses in a day, you could easily make $200.

There is a lot of talk about people scamming where people spray paint the curb first and then look to charge the potential customer. Don’t do this. Make sure you always get permission first before you do anything.

This is especially a good side hustle for neighborhoods that have their properties set back far.

#12 Cleaning Gutters

In areas where there’s typically a lot of trees and rain, gutters could tend to get clogged and messy.

But who wants to get on their roof and clean their gutters? I know my parents don’t.

This is another great side hustle to go around asking homeowners if they’d like it done.

This is especially good during the spring time after winter because homes are emerging from the harsh weather conditions, and gutters are likely filled with debris, making it the perfect time for a thorough cleaning.

It’s really up to you how you want to charge, but a lot of people charge $1-$2 per linear foot. This means if a house has 100 linear feet of gutters, you could potentially earn $100-$200 for just a few hours of work. This pricing strategy not only makes your service affordable and competitive but also allows you to scale your earnings based on the size and complexity of the job.

Just be sure to be safe and research all the ways you could ensure your safety as you’ll be high up on a ladder frequently.
